MND: In the Internet discussions about fibromyalgia, there is a tendency to use interchangeably the term ”tender point” and Myofascial trigger point. There is such a thing as the myofascial pain syndrome, and it’s trigger point differ from the Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS)tender points
MND:This is according to a German study in “Der Schmerze” . Some comments, though
- The claim , though that fibromyalgia has “unspecific histological changes in biopsy material” is not that clear. Other studies did find abnormalities in the biopsy of muscles of patient with FMS, but not definitive pattern, hence the “unspecific” qualifier?
- We have posted previously “Myofascial Pain in Fibromyalgia (MDLinx), in which another study seems to infer a connection between fibromyalgia and Myofascial pain
MND: So controversy there is. Why does it matter? There are techniques to alleviate myofascial pain, one hopes they would work for fibromyagia….
