MND:  Collaboration of Swedes and Malaysian scientist has shown a very unexpected result: Bacteria in the Gut May Influence Brain Development . The story was published in sciencedaily, click here for link

MND: Quoting sciencedaily:

“…scientists observed that adult germ-free mice displayed different behavior from mice with normal microbiota, suggesting that gut bacteria may have a significant effect on the development of the brain in mammals…Not only are signal substances like serotonin and dopamine subject to regulation by bacteria, synapse function also appears to be regulated by colonizing bacteria…”

MND:We already know about the enteric nervous system (Scientific American), a complex nervous system located in our gut and with some interface to the brain. This seems to say the brain and the ENS are more connected than we thought.
