MediNewsDigest: This  italian overview of the progress of stem cell research in MS show mixed results.      Quoting:   “…..clinical exploitation of stem cells for MS may lead to novel strategies aimed at blocking uncontrolled inflammation, protecting neurons and promoting remyelination but not at restoring the chronically deranged neural network responsible for irreversible disability typical of the late phase of MS….”        So, according to this study, stopping the progressive damage, maybe; but restoring abilities, probably not. At least not now.

However,  workers are continuing their efforts. The next link is about progress in  remyelination strategies for MS. Interestingly, the ethical issues of embryonic stemcels might be bypassed using adult stem cells or bone marrow-derived cells.
